OFFICIAL INFO:
1) What It's LikeUrban/suburban St.Pete - it's a bit of forest but mostly they show injured raptors and show live reptiles. There's a small turtle pond, they have a nice meeting space here for meetups etc. 2) Kinds of BirdsBird blind with feeders though we saw none when we stopped. They do have some unusual captured/injured raptors: Swallow Tailed Kit was a big treat. Also barn owl, Mississippi kite, horned owl, red shouldered hawk, and barred owl are what I recall seeing. 3) WildlifeSt.Pete is urban/suburban so not much that's truly wild but turtles and they have things in captivity. 4) AmenitiesNice nature center so bathrooms etc as well. 5) Time RequirementsChecking out the birds in captivity might take half an hour but the outdoors bird blind etc was probably 10 minutes for us. ExperienceWhen we showed up here the first time we entered the education center and checked out the turtles in tanks etc. Then when we headed out back it looked like it might have nice displays: turtle pond, vegetable garden, windmill, bird feeders at bird blind. But the exciting thing was to actually see both a Mississippi and Swallow Tailed Kit up close. |
