OFFICIAL INFO:

1) What It's Like

Birding spot - not hiking. It's a boat ramp to a lake bed that's been dry when we've been. Or dry enough that you'd have to walk 200ft to go from dry to mud to not being able to see past the weeds to the water. Mansion on one side of it. Have seen large groups of turkeys in parking area along with sandhill cranes.

2) Kinds of Birds

Pretty good for birds as far as just being one spot. Red winged blackbirds and some other things that weren't really close enough to ID. Have seen large groups of turkeys in parking area along with sandhill cranes. Watch both sides of road.

3) Wildlife

Turkeys

4) Amenities

Nothing - it's a boat ramp.

5) Time Requirements

If you go nuts like us and walk on the lake etc you could spend an hour but you'll probably be fine with 10-20 minutes.

Experience

When we drive in we saw a family of turkeys on the left hopping the fence one by one. Then a local showed up and we had a nice conversation. We parked and waited for sandhill cranes to slowly walk on past - was kind of an odd shady place for them to be. We get to the water and see red winged black birds and a lack of water. I walk out onto the more or less dry but turning muddy lake bed and all I could think was "am I going to step on an aligator's tail or something". Nice view of the mansion out there. Turned around before reaching actual water though I suspect it's a good place for ducks and wading birds. On the way out a completely different family of turkeys walking the other direction on the other side of the road.

So - not a bad stop.
