OFFICIAL INFO:

1) What It's Like

Everyone in my family loves this place - I am a sourpuss . That said: Someone took the idea of a bunch of plastic yard flamingos, loudly painted custom furniture, pepper plants, brightly colored tiles - so stuff people like to see when they go on a Florida vacation - and go to level 10 with it until it's a museum with 2 guides per person on a property the size of maybe two houses on the main drag - Tamiami Trail. So whimsical - sure.

2) Kinds of Birds

Cartoonish ones with metal feet stuck in the grass.

3) Wildlife

Cartoonish ones with metal feet stuck in the grass.

4) Amenities

Bathrooms, MANY docents/guides, whimsy?, weird chairs to sit in, oil paintings by the pound.

5) Time Requirements

I doubt you'd spend an hour. You may run in fright inside 2 minutes.

Experience

Weird place. This is like licorice - either you love it or you think it's dumb. I know enough people who love it that I'll just say I'm happy for them. Like I said in "what it's like" - it's like someone got a few things like lawn flamingos in their yard, became obsessed with it and used their fortune to people who could custom make that kind of thing and just kept shouting "MORE!" maniacally for a couple years. Personally I don't think this kind of thing is art or rebellious enough to be very interesting but it does count as culture which I do like. The docents/guides - it was beginning to be stressful that I wasn't wowed enough for them. I thought they might attack me soon. Especially when I refused to go in the women's bathroom to see "the tiles". Cari couldn't quite explain that to me in a way I could get.

SO - your family will probably enjoy this. It's not a boring place to stop while making the trek along Tamiami Trail. They like what they are doing and they are doing it really well. Go for it!

You'll probably like it - I'm probably just a sourpuss. Also if you like this you'll love Soloman's Castle south of here maybe an hour.
