OFFICIAL INFO:

1) What It's Like

McKendree road is just a road between cow pastures right off I75 that we seem to find a few interesting birds and it's close to some other interesting roads. We just park and walk around for 20 minutes usually.

2) Kinds of Birds

Can be anything really but tend to see hawks, palm warblers (a lot), meadow larks in grass low enough that they duck in and out of it, ducks if the ponds have enough water but nothing exotic beyond sandhill cranes.

3) Wildlife

Cows - might be right by fence.

4) Amenities

Relative to the rest of Florida - not many signs warning you you're be shot for trespassing.

5) Directions

Other people go birding on this road - I don't know if this is the 'right' spot but here's where we tend to just park and walk around: the first real clump of trees when going south off FL-52 within view of  I-75. I believe it's exit 93 off I-75 - FL-52 / San Antonio, FL - by the big Flying J gas station.

6) Time Requirements

Just a road - note likely long.

Experience

Hernando county has several interesting roads for birding - this one isn't the most interesting of them but it's convenient and we spot something often enough that we've been back half a dozen times. Highly suggest stopping and getting out of the car, walking, and tuning in if you want to spot something.
